Involvement of Adenosine in Retinal Ischemia

چکیده
Methods. Ischemia-reperfusion injury to the rat retina was induced by raising the intraocular pressure above the systolic blood pressure for 45 minutes, followed by reperfusion for 3 days. This insult caused a reduction of the b-wave of the electroretinogram (54% ± 5%, n = 23) relative to the contralateral control retina, an expression of glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP) in the Muller cells, and an alteration in the "staining" pattern of the calretinin immunoreactivity. The normal two to three bands of calretinin immunoreactivity in the inner plexiform layer appeared as a single band. Elevation of the intraocular pressure for 60 minutes, followed by reperfusion of 2 weeks, caused a 40% reduction in the thickness of the inner nuclear and plexiform layers. No statistically significant changes in the other retinal layers were recorded.

The effects of adenosine injection after of brain ischemia reperfusion injury on gene expression of NF-kB/p65 and activity level of ROS in male Wistar rats
Background: Unit of p65 is one of the subunits of NF-κB and its phosphorylation by stress oxidative causes activation of NF-κB. The aim of present study was to investigate the effects of adenosine injection after brain ischemia reperfusion injury on gene expression of NF-κB /p65 and Reactive Oxygen Species (ROS) in hippocampus tissue of male wistar rats. Methods: 40 male wistar rats were rando...

Introduction: Stroke is one of the most important reasons of death. Hence, trials to prevent or lessen the complications originated by stroke are a goal of public health worldwide. The ischemia-reperfusion causes hypoxia, hypoglycemia and incomplete repel of metabolic waste products and leads to accumulation of free radicals triggering neuronal death. The A1 adenosine receptoras an endogenous l...
متن کاملThe purine nucleoside adenosine in retinal ischemia-reperfusion injury
Adenosine, an intercellular messenger that is a product of the metabolism of ATP, plays a major role in neuronal and vascular responses of the retina to alterations in oxygen delivery. Significant changes in adenosine concentration have been measured in the retina during both ischemia and during the subsequent reperfusion period which result in important, but complex, functional effects. Adenos...

متن کاملInhibitory effect of ischemic preconditioning on leukocyte participation in retinal ischemia-reperfusion injury.
PURPOSE Recent reports have shown that ischemic preconditioning induces strong protection against retinal damage by subsequent prolonged ischemia and that this protection is mediated by mechanisms involving the adenosine A1 receptor. This study was designed to evaluate quantitatively the effects of ischemic preconditioning on leukocyte-mediated reperfusion injury after transient retinal ischemi...
